With the huge influx of Gin varieties on the market now we thought we would jump on the band wagon and hold our first Gin Festival on International Gin Day, which this year was held on Saturday 8 June.
After doing some extensive research our new bar was stocked with over 24 different flavours of Gin along with a fabulous selection of tonics to compliment each recipe. Pete, our flamboyant chef was let out of the kitchen for the day, dressed for the occasion and full of brilliant ideas on how to ‘dress’ each variety of Gin served. So many of the distilleries use a number of botanicals in their recipes and each one has a slightly varying slant on what the Gin tastes like. Adding a suitable fruit and tonic makes all the difference.
Exmouth’s newly elected Mayor Cllr Steve Gazzard opened proceedings welcoming our guests and complimenting on Manor Hotel’s newly upgraded facilities. He was then treated to a master class on Gin & tonic serving by Peter.
The occasion @Manor Bar led to guests being offered 5 Gin tasters before helping themselves to a beautifully presented buffet lunch and a choice of two Gin cocktails; Chef’s own “Wonky Donkey” or the more colourful “Funkin’ Fruity”. Adding to the event in his own incredible way, Magical-Moon entertained guests with his table top magic. No matter how hard one concentrated on following his moves the magic had us all foxed, and delighted.
All in all everyone spent a happy afternoon testing their taste buds and our Gin mixing skills – with over 24 varieties to try it turned in to a late evening for many.
