Historic Manor Hotel, Exmouth
Whether you are visiting Manor Hotel Exmouth as a first time or returning guest, as a sightseeing visitor to Exmouth, or because you have business in the area, we are delighted to be your hosts for the duration of your stay.
Please do not hesitate to let any member of staff know if you have any questions or special requests.
The Grand Old Lady Of The Beacon
Manor Hotel has a Grade II listing because of its historical significance to Exmouth and East Devon. It is not only the area’s oldest surviving hostelry, it was actually also one of the first built too.
Originally called, The Beacon Hotel, back in the 1790’s, it served as a Coaching Inn and it would have been kept busy both for its enviable location and because as the railway did not reach Exeter till the mid 1840’s horse and carriage was the only mode of long distance travel.
Manor Hotel is not the only grand old lady associated with The Beacon. Once upon a time, her illustrious neighbours included both Lady Byron and Lady Nelson. And it has had its share of famous visitors too. As the Blue Plaque from Exmouth Society describes, Franz Liszt was a visitor in 1840.
Staying At The Manor Hotel
Because of its long pedigree, Manor Hotel is not a typical modern hotel, in which every room has the same shape and decor. On the contrary, each of its 40 rooms has its own character and charm.
Given its location on the Beacon, a few of the front-facing rooms on the first floor of Manor Hotel have a few steps up to enter making these rooms not suitable for disabled access. However, the unique character of each of the rooms and even of the floors which may be slightly uneven in places, simply add to the experience of staying in one of Exmouth’s oldest hostelries.
It also means that it is a good idea to specify any special requirements regarding access or special needs at the time you are booking your room.
Sadly, we do not have any record of which room Franz List may have stayed in but we are sure like our guests of today, that he would have enjoyed the stunning views across the sea.
The Guest Experience
Our guests of today may not be world famous classical composers and pianists but every one of them is an honoured visitor. We encourage them to leave their guest reviews and suggestions upon departure. Whenever appropriate we will act on constructive suggestions and we are always grateful for any feedback we receive.
Within a short walk from the sea, next to the delightfully colourful Manor Gardens and just near to the Town Centre, this Hotel offers a panoramic view of the Bay and spectacular views of Exmouth’s glorious sunsets
It may not be 5* but the staff are, and make it a 5* experience. Lovely location and spacious room with lovely sea view; all in all a fab few days. Would love to have a return visit.
